Remains found inside a car at a Los Angeles impound lot last week have been identified as those of a teenage girl who had been missing since April 2024, authorities said this week. The car where her remains were found was registered to the singer D4vd, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office said on Tuesday (local time) that the remains were found in a Tesla at the impound lot and that they were those of Celeste Rivas, who was reported missing on April 5, 2024, from Lake Elsinore, California, about 112km south-east of Los Angeles.
D4vd and (right) the Tesla in which a teen’s body was found.
Officials have not yet determined how Celeste, who was 13 at the time of her disappearance, had died.
Her body was “severely decomposed” and appeared to have been inside the vehicle for an extended period of time, the medical examiner said.
The Tesla had been parked at an impound yard in West Hollywood since September 5. The city had towed it there after responding to a citizen complaint about the car having been abandoned for more than 72 hours, authorities said. It had not been reported stolen, said Officer Drake Madison, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department.
A person familiar with the situation told The New York Times that the vehicle was registered to D4vd, whose real name is David Anthony Burke and who has millions of followers on social media and music platforms. The person asked not to be identified in order to discuss an ongoing investigation.
Representatives for D4vd (pronounced like David), 20, who created the anthem for Fortnitedid not immediately respond to requests for comment on Wednesday.
The brands Hollister and Crocs said they were removing the singer from an ad campaign that ran this month as the investigation continued, according to a report in the industry media outlet Footwear News.
The city and its adjoining suburbs are likely to witness a partly cloudy sky accompanied by spells of moderate rain through the day, according to the Mumbai weather updates. While the rainfall activity is not expected to be intense, residents have been advised to remain cautious, particularly during high tide hours, when waterlogging in low-lying areas could worsen.
The IMD`s Santacruz observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 30.2 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 25.9 degrees Celsius on Thursday. Meanwhile, the Colaba observatory reported a high of 29.6 degrees Celsius and a low of 24.9 degrees Celsius, as per the latest Mumbai weather updates.
The tide schedule issued for Thursday indicates that the first high tide will occur at 9.56 am, reaching a height of 3.94 meters. This will be followed by a low tide at 4.07 pm, with the water level receding to 1.63 meters. Later in the evening, another high tide is expected at 10.06 pm, with waves rising to 3.52 meters. The next low tide has been predicted at 4.01 am on Friday, September 19, when the level will dip to 1.08 meters, as per the latest Mumbai weather updates.
Civic authorities have urged citizens to plan travel accordingly, especially in coastal areas and zones vulnerable to flooding. With monsoon showers still active, officials have also advised residents to exercise caution near seafronts, avoid venturing into the sea, and stay updated through official advisories.
Meanwhile, the water levels in lakes supplying drinking water to Mumbai have risen following heavy rainfall in their catchment areas. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, the combined stock in the seven reservoirs that provide water to the city now stands at 99.02 per cent.
As per the BMC on Thursday (September 18), the collective water stock in these reservoirs is 14,33,121 million litres, which amounts to 99.02 per cent of their total capacity.
The BMC supplies drinking water daily from Upper Vaitarna, Modak Sagar, Tansa, Middle Vaitarna, Bhatsa, Vehar, and Tulsi lakes.
Of these, Tansa has 98.85 per cent water stock, Modak Sagar 99.99 per cent, Middle Vaitarna 98.72 per cent, Upper Vaitarna 98.94 per cent, Bhatsa 98.93 per cent, Vehar 100 per cent and Tulsi 100 per cent.
Lower (Modak Sagar), Middle and Upper Vaitarna lakes, along with Tansa, supply water to the western suburbs from Dahisar Check Naka to Bandra and to the western parts of the city from Mahim to Malabar Hill.
Bhatsa, Vehar, and Tulsi together form the Bhatsa system. Water from this system is treated at the Panjarpur Water Treatment Plant and distributed to the eastern parts of Mumbai, covering the eastern suburbs from Mulund Check Naka to Sion and further to Mazgaon.
As a service to fans who have a general interest in WWE but might not have watched a match in months, we’re happy to provide this FAQ as a guide to Wrestlepalooza, scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m. ET from Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. ESPN’s first Premium Live Event with WWE, Wrestlepalooza, is streaming exclusively in the U.S. for fans with a subscription to the ESPN Unlimited plan — either directly or through a traditional pay TV package — on the ESPN App.
What is a Wrestlepalooza?
Back in 1995, the late, great Extreme Championship Wrestling had an idea: What if there was an event that took its name from Lollapalooza, but instead of a music festival featuring the Red Hot Chili Peppers, it was a wrestling show that featured The Public Enemy and The Gangstas, in a tag team stretcher match?
WWE, which acquired ECW and its trademarks in 2003, wanted to kick off its new ESPN rights deal with a special Premium Live Event (PLE) that needed a memorable name. So WWE dipped into its deep bag of wrestling intellectual properties and decided on Wrestlepalooza. (Apologies to those who were hoping for “Barbed Wire, Hoodies & Chokeslams,” another ECW pay-per-view classic.)
Despite its roots, there aren’t a lot of extreme wrestling matches on this weekend’s Wrestlepalooza. Just extremely interesting ones, such as John Cena continuing his retirement tour against the formidable Brock Lesnar.
What has the John Cena retirement tour been like?
Here’s a summary of why “the last time is now” for Cena: Cena announced at Money in the Bank in July 2024 that he will retire as an in-ring performer at the end of 2025. His goal was gold: Cena was tied with Ric Flair for the most WWE world championships (16), and now the clock was ticking on breaking that record.
He was eliminated by Jey Uso in the 2025 Royal Rumble in February, costing him a title shot, but won the subsequent Elimination Chamber match in March to earn a match against undisputed WWE champion Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41.
Here’s where things get a little weird. The Rock had finally come back to WWE to ask Rhodes to hand over his “soul.” He appeared at the end of Elimination Chamber with his henchman, rapper Travis Scott (told you it got weird), to collect said soul from Rhodes, who was in the ring with Cena. Rhodes, being rather fond of his soul, declined The Rock’s offer. But in his desperation to break the record, Cena turned heel again after two decades as a babyface and joined an attack on Rhodes with The Rock and Scott. Thanks to interference from Scott, Cena beat Rhodes for the title at WrestleMania. Scott and The Rock wouldn’t play a role during Cena’s title reign.
The angle gave us one of the most shocking heel turns in wrestling history … and a slew of moments where Cena tried on an ill-fitting heel persona, cutting promos about his disdain for the fans that he had consistently praised during the rest of his retirement tour.
Luckily, Cena and WWE pumped the brakes on this persona in August on the SmackDown before SummerSlam, telling fans he realized that his reputation had been “flushed down the toilet” in pursuit of “shocking TV.”
“The people that were supposed to be on my team? They left. And they left me alone, trying to pretend that I’m something I’m not,” Cena said.
Cena entered SummerSlam at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey to cheers, but Rhodes left with the championship. And that’s where Brock Lesnar reentered the picture. Fans were stunned when his music hit during Cena’s farewell to SummerSlam. But Cena probably wasn’t all that shocked when Lesnar delivered an F-5 to him, given their history.
Why does Brock Lesnar want to fight John Cena again?
There are a few ways to answer that question.
The first answer is that Lesnar, who hadn’t been seen in WWE since 2023, just likes to beat people up. He attacked Cena and Sami Zayn during their U.S. title match on SmackDown recently. He attacked R-Truth (a.k.a. “Ron Cena”) when he touted up Cena. He’s the Beast Incarnate. It’s his nature.
According to WWE chief content officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque on the SummerSlam postgame show, Lesnar was on Cena’s “wish list” of opponents who would help him write “the last chapter of his book.”
Lesnar and Cena have wrestled only six times in one-on-one matches, with Lesnar holding a 4-2 advantage. The last match was at Night of Champions in 2014, which Cena won via disqualification against then-world-champion Lesnar. Saturday’s match will kick off Wrestlepalooza, as announced Thursday on “The Pat McAfee Show.”
Their legacies are intertwined: They got their starts in the developmental Ohio Valley Wrestling scene, rising up to WWE superstar and champion status. Lesnar isn’t as essential to the Cena story as, say, Randy Orton was, but he’s a significant plot thread to tie up before Cena says goodbye.
But the ultimate factor might be the Cena face turn. Our wrestling heroes need the odds stacked against them. They need seemingly insurmountable opponents to stare down in the ring.
Cena admitted on Raw this week that he’s “afraid” of Lesnar. But he said that “The Last Real Champion” will “take the fight to the Beast” in a “final showdown between two generational titans.”
Man, that guy can hype a match, can’t he?
What about WWE champion Cody Rhodes?
Cody is facing Drew McIntyre for the undisputed WWE championship. These two had a feud just over a year ago that culminated in a street fight on SmackDown.
After Rhodes captured the title at SummerSlam, McIntyre attacked him on SmackDown with a Claymore Kick through the side of the announcers’ table, which was inventive. McIntyre would later argue that Rhodes attacked him first that night — a claim with a modicum of validity — even though McIntyre’s escalation of violence could hardly be called self-defense.
McIntyre fancied that kick through the table so much that he was going to deliver one to Orton a few weeks later on SmackDown when Rhodes returned from injury for the save and to challenge McIntyre to a title match at Wrestlepalooza.
The announcers might want to sit in the skybox for this one, as there is zero chance their ringside table isn’t going to be obliterated into sawdust.
As Rhodes has noted, McIntyre is one of only four wrestlers — along with Cena, Lesnar and Roman Reigns — to have defeated him in a singles match since he returned to WWE in 2022.
Since you mentioned Roman Reigns, does Wrestlepalooza have any Bloodline action?
Why, yes! For the first time on a PLE since 2023, Jey and Jimmy Uso are wrestling as a tag team as the Usos compete against Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker, who are members of world heavyweight champion Seth Rollins’ faction, The Vision.
Reigns had been feuding with this Paul Heyman-backed group, suffering an attack that led to a singles match against Reed earlier this month at Clash in Paris. After Reigns was victorious, Reed and Breakker left him so beaten up that he’ll be out several weeks while starring as Akuma in the new “Street Fighter” reboot … I mean, rehabbing that injury.
On the next Raw, Reed and Breakker were beating on LA Knight when Jimmy Uso made an ill-advised save. Jey Uso rushed the ring to save his brother, furthering the feud that has led to this tag match against The Vision.
Important sidebar here: Knight and Jey Uso have a building beef that started with some miscommunication during a brawl with The Vision that left Jey getting flattened by Reed. Jey responded by delivering a spear to Knight, leaving Jimmy dumbfounded. After the two shook hands and seemingly made up a week later, Knight gave him the ol’ Stone Cold “kick-boom-stunner” combo and claimed the score was now even.
Something tells me this animosity might just carry over to Wrestlepalooza. Who will win the immortal struggle of “YEET!” vs. “YEAH!”?
Is there a women’s title match on the card?
Yes, and it’s for a championship that’s currently vacant for a rather joyous reason: Reigning world champion Naomi announced that she and husband Jimmy Uso are expecting a child.
She relinquished the title on Aug. 18 and told the women’s division they had nine months before she returns to reclaim it. No word if her newborn will be worked into subsequent angles, with Naomi choking out opponents with a Baby Bjorn.
The new holder of that title will be determined at Wrestlepalooza between Iyo Sky and Stephanie Vaquer, who both have a claim to the championship. Sky was scheduled to challenge for the championship before Naomi announced her pregnancy. Vaquer won a 20-woman Battle Royal at WWE Evolution in July to earn a title shot.
Keep in mind, Sky dropped the title to Naomi in a triple-threat match at Evolution that also featured Rhea Ripley. Those three ran it back at SummerSlam, where Sky again couldn’t win back her title. Vaquer, meanwhile, is chasing her first WWE championship after reigning as NXT women’s champion earlier this year.
Exciting times in the women’s division. And that’s not even mentioning the former champion who dressed like a ninja and attacked CM Punk. Or AJ Lee, who’s wrestling at Wrestlepalooza in her first match since 2015.
AJ Lee is back in WWE?!
In the words of Kurt Angle: Oh, it’s true. It’s damn true.
For about five years, the sight of AJ Lee skipping out from the back with a mischievous grin meant something eventful was about to go down. She was an essential part of the “Divas Revolution” just over a decade ago, not only as one of the longest-reigning titleholders but as the opposing force to the “Total Divas” reality television era. Please recall Lee calling out the Bella Twins and others as “ungrateful, stiff, plastic mannequins” during a “pipe bomb” promo that no doubt endeared her to her husband and pipe-bomb originator CM Punk, whom she married in 2014.
Ever since Punk returned to WWE in November 2023, there’s been speculation that Lee might also make her long-awaited wrestling comeback. Becky Lynch finally gave her a reason.
At Clash in Paris, Punk faced Seth Rollins, who cashed in his Money in the Bank contract to win Punk’s title at SummerSlam. Punk had Rollins hoisted up for a final GTS when a mysterious assailant emerged and decided it was clobberin’ time with Punk’s lower extremities. Off came the black mask to reveal Lynch, marking the first time she aligned herself in the ring with Rollins since he gave her a wedding ring in 2021.
Lynch explained in a face-off with Punk that she and Rollins run WWE and that Punk doesn’t fit “the vision,” punctuating it with a slap to Punk’s head. During that promo, fans started an “AJ Lee!” chant, to which Lynch venomously snapped back, “She doesn’t work here!”
Cut to SmackDown in Chicago a few days later. The fans are still chanting “AJ Lee!” Lynch is telling them to “shut up.” Punk informs her that he’d never put his hands on a lady, but “thankfully, I’ve got someone who will.”
And then out skipped AJ Lee.
The mixed tag team match between these four stars could be the showstopper and main event at Wrestlepalooza. Punk and Rollins hate each other. Lynch and Lee are icons from different generations of the women’s division — and now AJ has a receipt from Becky slapping her husband.
It’s got nastiness and drama and, let’s not forget, a former women’s champion competing in her first match since March 2015. One prediction we’re comfortable making about Wrestlepalooza: There will be a “you still got it!” chant during this match.

China’s third aircraft carrier, the Fujian, recently passed through the Taiwan Straits to carry out tests and training missions in the South China Sea. This constitutes a regular arrangement in the aircraft carrier’s construction process, a Chinese defense ministry spokesperson said on Tuesday.
Jiang Bin, spokesperson for China’s Ministry of National Defense, made the remarks in response to a relevant question, noting that the move is in accordance with relevant international law and practices, and it is not aimed at any specific target.
“China is committed to peaceful development and pursues a defense policy that is defensive in nature, and we have always advanced aircraft carrier construction based on national security needs and the development of equipment technology,” the spokesperson said.
Vanity is among the novel’s dominant concerns. Cannon, too, is liable to be accused of taking refuge in her stoicism, vainly trying to show up for others, vainly seeking human connections. In conversation with Charlotte, Cannon, finally invited to talk, realises her own emotional walls. She is reluctant to accept her own anger; it feels implicitly connected to her grandfather’s rage. Yet we sense, too, the possibility her intergenerational trauma need not be hers alone to define and navigate.
Author Lee LaiCredit: Bee Elton
Lee Lai has a distinctive, hand-drawn illustration style, economic and forceful. Her characters are tactile and expressive, fluid and graceful. Cannon’s relationship with her co-worker, Charlotte, is especially well done, their differences energised by emotional juxtaposition (Charlotte, louchely sophisticated and constantly lolling; Cannon, touching or holding various parts of her body, accustomed to keeping her own company, to self-soothing).
Across each panel, Lai makes space for comedy in the framing of her characters, attentive to their expressions and postures and tics. Lai’s faces seem to flicker and ripple, marked by wide-set expressions, distinctively pocked and wrinkled gazes: eyebrows balanced high, curves jauntily bracketing lips and cheekbones.
A pivotal moment in the novel, when Cannon arrives home alone and Trish is with Kam, offers a neat little pile-drive of feeling and released tension. In one lovely sequence, Lai skillfully cuts across time and the interiorities of her characters as Cannon recalls kissing Charlotte to Trish: the panels jump forward, showing the kiss, then Cannon’s blushing reaction, giddy with its memory as she sails through the streets of Montreal on her bike.

Following the success of Lai’s Fantagraphics debut, the Stella-shortlisted Stone FruitLai returns here with a local publisher. Giramondo’s first foray into graphic novels since releasing Pat Grant’s Blue in 2012, Cannon is comparable to Stone Fruit. Both contain their share of darkness. Crow-like birds periodically greet Cannon – manifestations of latent anger, as well as a form of soothing company.
Yet Cannon’s melancholy, its quiet sense of precise observation, is leavened by a keen sense of humour and intelligence.
This is a thoughtful, deliberative work, and one of the best graphic novels I have read this year.

NEWCASTLE, England — Barcelona manager Hansi Flick laid down the gauntlet to Marcus Rashford on Wednesday — and on Thursday, in stunning fashion, he responded as Barça opened their Champions League campaign with a 2-1 win at a raucous St. James’ Park against Newcastle United.
Ahead of the match, Flick had urged Rashford to prove himself back in England. He did just that, scoring twice in the second half — the first a fine header and the second and a brilliant strike from distance, which hit the underside of the bar on the way past Nick Pope.
The goals, Rashford’s first for Barça since his summer move from Manchester United, earned Flick’s side a vital European win in an encounter where Newcastle played their part in as well. Anthony Gordon‘s 90th-minute goal set up seven tense minutes of stoppage time, but it did not take the spotlight away from Rashford.
It famously took Rashford just one game to open his account for Man United, of course, and 10 for Aston Villa. After a low-key start at Barça, his first goal has arrived in his fifth appearance, and it makes him the first Englishman to score for the Catalan club in the European Cup since Gary Lineker in 1989.
“For me it was the first step,” Flick said after the match. “He has to make the next step. This match, these goals here in England against Newcastle for Barcelona in first Champions League match this season, it’s great. It gives him confidence in himself. This is the most important thing.
“But I am not surprised. His skills are unbelievable and his finishing is unbelievable. For a striker, of course, it’s always good to score. I am really happy. He is an important player. When we spoke before the season, about what we need for the team, we needed a player like him.”
The biggest compliment Rashford could be paid by the home supporters was the fierce jeers that accompanied his substitution late in the game. As Flick embraced him warmly on the touchline, he must have been thinking about how much he loves facing Newcastle. That’s now 11 goals in 16 appearances against them.
These two may prove the most memorable. The timing of his first Barça goal, opening the scoring in a tight Champions League affair, could not have been more perfect. The setting was pretty good, too, back in England where, at times during some tough spells with United, he has been written off. This was a reminder that he still has plenty to offer at the top level.
It was also welcome for Flick. With Lamine Yamal missing through injury, there were questions about how Barça’s attack would fair in the North East of England. Those questions looked understandable at the break, but Rashford, supported by the tireless Raphinha and Fermín López, as well as Robert Lewandowski, ensured that narrative will not get off the ground just yet.
Instead, United castaway Rashford was the catalyst for what was a good European away performance in a fixture that had been billed as one of the toughest Barça will face of eight in the League Phase of the competition. This is mainly because of how Newcastle have improved in recent years and the ferocious home support, but also because of some romanticism around the meeting.

What can Newcastle take away from Barcelona defeat?
Don Hutchinson believes Newcastle played “a fantastic game” despite losing 2-1 to Barcelona in the Champions League.
This is not the most-played match-up in European football, but that is what made it such a special occasion. There is some shared history, too. As thousands of black-and-white clad fans poured from the city centre to the stadium, the statue of Sir Bobby Robson, the Durham-born lad who went on to manage both of these sides, was dressed in a half-and-half scarf.
Faustino Asprilla was also present, rolled out before kick off to evoke memories of his hat-trick in a win over Barça here in 1997. He also made an appearance on the pre-game tifo, “Tino Turner” greeting the players as they entered the pitch in reference to a headline which followed his devastating display against the Blaugrana almost 30 years ago.
For a brief while, it looked like another famous night may be possible on Tyneside. The energy in the stadium was electric. If you were just listening to the reactions of the supporters, you would be forgiven for thinking Newcastle had raced into a 3-0 lead inside 10 minutes. What they were actually cheering was a header, a block and a tackle.
The players fed off the atmosphere but chances came and went. Gordon somehow missed the ball after good work from Anthony Elanga and Joan García produced a stunning save from Harvey Barnes after more good work from Elanga.
Barça weathered the storm, though, and established some control in midfield through Pedri. Half chances came and went, mainly for Lewandowski, who revealed this week he had a Newcastle shirt when he was younger and was a big fan of club legend Alan Shearer. This was his first start of the season following a recent return from injury but there was to be no goal. Shearer would have been flattered by the Poland striker’s praise but happy to see Newcastle keep him out.
Newcastle could not keep Barça out, though. When an attack, led by Raphinha, appeared to have ended, Jules Koundé collected the ball and delivered a devastating cross. Rashford had burst into the box and produced a fine glancing header in front of the travelling Barça supporters.
It just took nine minutes for his second Barça goal to arrive. Collecting the ball in the middle of the pitch, there appeared little trouble as Sandro Tonali ushered him towards the corner of the 18-yard box. What followed was an unstoppable rocket of a shot which shook the cross bar on it’s way in. Chants of “Rashford” — the first since he signed — could be heard from the away end as silence fell over St. James’ Park for the first time.
“It was a split second, I felt there was a gap,” Rashford said of his second goal. “I thought ‘Try to get a shot off.’ Their player was trying to block it so I tried to lift it. I knew when I caught it, it would take the keeper some going to stop it.
Gordon’s 90th minute consolation, followed by the sign going up for seven minutes of stoppage time brought the noise decibels back, belief returning, but that was all it was. Pedri took control of the ball and Barça saw the game out in a way they were unable to in last season’s semifinal, when they eventually lost a classic to Inter Milan. This time they held on, giving Rashford the dream night.

An emergency Arab-Islamic summit held in Doha on Monday strongly condemned Israel’s recent attack on Qatar and declared full solidarity with the Gulf state.
In its final communique, the summit, chaired by Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, described the Israeli strike on a residential area in Doha as a “flagrant act of aggression” that violated international law and posed a grave threat to regional and global peace.
Arab and Islamic leaders reaffirmed their absolute support for Qatar’s sovereignty, security and stability, and backed all measures it may take in response to the attack. They stressed that targeting a neutral mediator undermined ongoing ceasefire talks on Gaza and broader peace efforts.
The statement also denounced Israel’s “crimes of genocide, ethnic cleansing, starvation and siege, as well as settlement activities and expansionist policies,” warning they jeopardize prospects for peace.
The leaders called for urgent international action to hold Israel accountable, including sanctions, halting arms supplies and reviewing diplomatic and economic ties with Israel.
The summit further urged the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to coordinate efforts to suspend Israel’s UN membership, citing its persistent “violations” of international law and UN resolutions.
The communique reiterated support for Palestinian statehood based on 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, welcomed an upcoming international conference on the implementation of the two-state solution in New York, and praised Qatar’s role in mediation, humanitarian aid and fostering Arab and Islamic unity.
The emir said the summit sends a clear message in the face of Israel’s “state terrorism” affecting the region.
In a post on social media platform X, he added that the outcomes of the summit would intensify collective action and coordination, strengthen unity, and promote a consolidated front.
The summit was attended by Arab and Islamic heads of state, senior officials, and representatives of regional and international organizations.
She has frequently claimed that Brigitte was born male with the name Jean-Michel Trogneux and then “groomed” Emmanuel Macron as a teenager before transitioning to live as a woman.
Brigitte is 24 years older than her husband, whom she met while teaching at his high school. She has three children from a former marriage and seven grandchildren.
The Macrons filed a suit in July alleging that Owens had made continued defamatory attacks against the couple in order to “promote her independent platform, gain notoriety, and make money”.
The suit also states that Trogneux is Brigitte’s older brother, who lives in northern France and attended Macron’s presidential inaugurations in 2017 and 2022.
It also accuses the US podcaster of falsely alleging Macron and his wife are blood relatives and that the president was installed in office by a secret CIA plot.

Clare said that the Macrons would also testify, adding that the process was “incredibly intrusive for this family” but would demonstrate “how confident they are in their ability to prove it is false in an open forum.”
The conspiracy theory first went viral on social media in 2021 and grew in prominence after a YouTube video made by French bloggers Amandine Roy and Natacha Rey.
The Macrons won a defamation lawsuit in France against the two bloggers, but this has since been overturned after an appeals court ruled it did not fit the legal definition of defamation.
They have appealed against the decision.

‘I will see you in court’
In their lawsuit against Owens, the Macrons claim she “disregarded all credible evidence disproving her claim in favour of platforming known conspiracy theorists and proven defamers”.
Under American law, the Macrons will have to prove that Owens knowingly spread false information, which is known as “actual malice”.
In August, the president said that he and his wife “had to” sue Owens in order to “have the truth respected”.
Macron said: “This is about defending my honour. Because this is nonsense. This is someone who knew full well that she had false information and did so with the aim of causing harm, in the service of an ideology and with established connections to far-right leaders.”
Responding to the lawsuit in July, Owens called it a “catastrophic PR strategy” and recommended Macron “fire everyone around you who said this was a very good idea”.
“On behalf of the entire world, I will see you in court,” she said.
Owens’ lawyers have applied to get the case thrown out, arguing that it should not have been filed in Delaware.
