Maharashtra: One killed, four injured in blast at chemical factory in Palghar

The officials on Friday said that one worker was killed and four others sustained injuries in an explosion at a chemical factory in Maharashtra`s Palghar district, reported news agency PTI.

The blast occurred at Limbani Salt Industries around 7.30 pm on Thursday, they said.

Five workers were present at the site during the mixing of metal and acid, a highly reactive process that triggered an explosion, said Vivekanand Kadam, chief of the Palghar District Disaster Management Cell, reported PTI.

He said one of the workers was killed on the spot, while two others sustained extensive burns and were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are undergoing critical care.

Two more workers stationed a little farther escaped with minor injuries, and their condition is said to be stable, the official said.

Emergency teams, including the fire brigade and disaster management personnel, quickly reached the site and brought the situation under control, reported PTI.

The local police are probing the incident, and an offence is likely to be registered after the authorities file a report, officials said.

Trailer-mounted rig machine catches fire in Thane; no casualty

In another case, a fire broke out on a trailer-mounted rig machine on a highway in Maharashtra`s Thane city early on Thursday, causing damage to the equipment, officials said, reported PTI.

No person was injured in the incident, Thane Municipal Corporation`s disaster management cell chief Yasin Tadvi said, reported PTI.

The incident was reported at 3.46 am near a temple on the Eastern Express Highway in Naupada area.

“The battery and control panel of the rig machine mounted on a trailer caught fire. The fire and disaster management teams brought the blaze under control swiftly. No one was injured,” Tadvi said, reported PTI.

The rig machine was being transported on a trailer and it was en route from Kalyan to Mahim in neighbouring Mumbai when the fire occurred, the official said, reported PTI.

The fire was doused by 4.30 am. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, he said.

  • Packers TE Tucker Kraft should be ‘OK’ after injury scare, source says

Packers TE Tucker Kraft should be ‘OK’ after injury scare, source says

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Green Bay Packers standout tight end Tucker Kraft, who sustained a knee injury during practice Thursday, got “a little scare but all good,” a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter after tests Thursday.

“I think he will be OK,” another source said of Kraft, who was added to the injury report after Thursday’s practice, three days before Green Bay’s game against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

The Packers don’t believe he’s going to sit out any time, but they also want to see how the knee responds Friday, the source said.

The injury came after the Packers lost receiver Jayden Reed to a broken collarbone in last week’s game against the Washington Commanders. Reed, who also underwent foot surgery, is expected to be put on injured reserve but could return late in the season.

Throw in the fact that they have been without receiver Christian Watson, who is on the physically unable to perform list while he continues his recovery from ACL surgery in January, and quarterback Jordan Love could be missing three of his top targets.

Through two games, Kraft leads the Packers with eight catches for 140 yards and two touchdowns. He’s coming off his first career 100-yard game in a Sept. 11 win over the Commanders.

If Kraft can’t play Sunday against the Browns, it will be the first time he has missed a game since he entered the NFL as a third-round pick in 2023. The Packers play the Cowboys in Week 4 and then have their bye week.

The China Coast Guard (CCG) said on Tuesday it lawfully took control measures against multiple Philippine official vessels engaged in illegal activities within the territorial waters of China’s Huangyan Dao.

According to CCG spokesperson Gan Yu, the Philippines organized more than 10 government vessels to intrude into the territorial waters from different directions. In response, in accordance with the law, the CCG implemented measures including verbal warnings, course restrictions, and water cannon spraying.

At around 10 a.m., the Philippine government vessel No. 3014 ignored repeated warnings from China and deliberately rammed a Chinese coast guard ship in what Gan described as an “unprofessional and dangerous manner” act.

He said that the Philippine side’s deliberate infringement and provocation were of a “vile nature,” stressing that the Philippines bears “full responsibility” for the collision.

Lola Young’s I’m Only F—ing Myself: unflinching honesty and catchy hooks.

Lola Young, I’m Only F—ing Myself

Last year, Lola Young blew up. The 24-year-old singer had been chipping away at a career in the music industry for close to a decade. The BBC predicted she’d be one of the breakout stars of 2022, but it wasn’t until the release of her second album This Wasn’t Meant For You Anyway last year, whose standout track Messy went viral via TikTok, that the “next big thing” tag came to seismic fruition.

But just as she started to go gangbusters, Young was nearly derailed by a cocaine addiction that sent her to a treatment facility last November. Her new album I’m Only F—ing Myself explores her drug dependency, as well as her action-packed sex life and ongoing mental health struggles (these were the main focus of her previous album; Young was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder as a teenager and was recently diagnosed with ADHD).

Many comparisons have been made between Young and the late crooner Amy Winehouse, another luminescent talent who flew too close to the sun. It’s not just addiction and a manager (Nick Shymansky) that the women have in common. Like Winehouse, Young is also a brilliant, raw, funny songwriter, a foul-mouthed South Londoner on the precipice of superstardom.

The 24-year-old was in rehab for a cocaine addiction when her smash Messy was blowing up on TikTok. On her new album, she explores her ongoing struggles with drugs, sex and mental health.

On I’m Only F—ing Myself, Young’s sexual frankness reaches new heights. Over distorted bluesy riffs, she leans into her recently announced bisexuality on F— Everyone. “I just wanna f— guys who don’t like me and don’t mind/I just wanna f— girls who don’t love me, they don’t mind,” she belts in the grungy, surefire scream-along of a chorus.

Initially, the lyrics come over a little immature, but it becomes apparent that most of the sex on this record is a dissociative substitute for, or an alternative, to drugs: gratifying in the moment, but perhaps not in the long run. One Thing is even more brazen, an ambling, reggae-tinged pop song in which Young owns the archetype of the single-minded male with lascivious abandon.

In her more vulnerable moments, Young expresses affection in sometimes unexpected places, telling her candy man she’ll miss him in the merry melodies and darker lyrics of pre-rehab kiss-off Dealer; admitting to a lover, “I’m not a woman if I don’t have you,” on the downbeat ballad Spiders; and experiencing an oxytocin-induced rush of emotion in Post-Sex Clarity. “I still love you and don’t know why/’Cause every other man didn’t mean a goddamn to me/When I finish it’s not the end of you and I,” she sings, on a song that sounds like it might have the same impact as Messy with its chorus of lilting, overdubbed harmonies.

Mumbai weather updates: Partly cloudy conditions, light to moderate rain likely

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a partly cloudy sky with light to moderate rain likely over the city and its suburbs through the day on Friday, as per the latest Mumbai weather updates. While the intensity of showers is not expected to be heavy, intermittent spells may affect traffic flow and daily commuting during peak hours.

According to the Mumbai weather updates, the city will experience two significant high tide phases on Saturday. The first will occur at 10:38 am, reaching a height of 4.15 meters, followed by another at 10:52 pm, measuring 3.82 meters. These high tide timings may cause localized waterlogging in low-lying coastal areas if accompanied by rain.

In contrast, low tide levels are expected at 4:46 pm on Friday with a depth of 1.30 meters, and again in the early hours of Saturday at 4:44 am, when the sea level will recede further to 0.96 meters, as per the latest Mumbai weather updates.

Citizens are advised to remain cautious while travelling along the city’s seafronts, particularly during high tide hours. Fishermen have also been asked to take precautions due to fluctuating sea levels.

Meanwhile, the water levels in lakes supplying drinking water to Mumbai have risen following heavy rainfall in their catchment areas. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, the combined stock in the seven reservoirs that provide water to the city now stands at 99.32 per cent.

As per the BMC on Friday (September 19), the collective water stock in these reservoirs is 14,33,121 million litres, which amounts to 99.32 per cent of their total capacity.

The BMC supplies drinking water daily from Upper Vaitarna, Modak Sagar, Tansa, Middle Vaitarna, Bhatsa, Vehar, and Tulsi lakes.

Of these, Tansa has 98.93 per cent water stock, Modak Sagar 99.78 per cent, Middle Vaitarna 98.99 per cent, Upper Vaitarna 99.15 per cent, Bhatsa 99.43 per cent, Vehar 100 per cent and Tulsi 100 per cent.

Lower (Modak Sagar), Middle and Upper Vaitarna lakes, along with Tansa, supply water to the western suburbs from Dahisar Check Naka to Bandra and to the western parts of the city from Mahim to Malabar Hill.

Bhatsa, Vehar, and Tulsi together form the Bhatsa system. Water from this system is treated at the Panjarpur Water Treatment Plant and distributed to the eastern parts of Mumbai, covering the eastern suburbs from Mulund Check Naka to Sion and further to Mazgaon.

  • Bills prevail in close win against Miami

Bills prevail in close win against Miami

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — High expectations were put on the Buffalo Bills coming in to yet another divisional matchup.

But the Miami Dolphins gave the Bills their best shot and kept the double-digit favorites close most of the way.

With just over three minutes remaining in the game and the Bills holding a 28-21 lead, Miami drove downfield to Buffalo’s 21-yard line. Then, the Bills’ defense did what it does best and came away with an opportune takeaway.

Just as he jumped on a fumble late in the Week 1 win over the Baltimore Ravens, on first-and-10, linebacker Terrel Bernard picked off quarterback Tua Tagovailoa on a pass intended for wide receiver Jaylen Waddle. The stadium erupted as Bernard returned the interception 24 yards, setting up the Bills’ offense to close out the game, which it promptly did, ending the ensuing drive with a 48-yard field goal. The Bills beat the Dolphins 31-21 and improved to 3-0.

The win marks the 25th consecutive game for the Bills without losing the turnover battle (including playoffs), the longest streak in NFL history.

The Bills now have 11 straight division wins at home — the longest streak since the New England Patriots won 17 straight from 2009 to 2014.

Here are the most important things to know from Thursday night for both teams:

    Buffalo Bills (3-0)

What to make of QB performance: Overall, Allen had a strong day, not turning the ball over and orchestrating impressive drives — in addition to throwing three touchdown passes to get 200 on his career.

The Dolphins, however, took away the Bills’ ability to get the ball downfield. Allen did not complete a pass thrown more than 10 yards down the field (0-1). This is the first time in his career he has failed to complete one in a game (min. 10 total pass attempts), and the lack of downfield passing attack hampered the offense at times.

Trend to watch: Third-down defense. The Bills finished the first two weeks of the season with the best third-down defense in the league (6-22, 27.3%). That absolutely evaporated vs. the Dolphins.

The Bills struggled to get off the field as Miami converted 10 of 15 third-down opportunities, including a variety of third-and-longs, and one fourth down. It played a large role in the Dolphins staying in the game.

Turning point: The roughing the kicker penalty on the Dolphins with 10:20 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Bills’ Cameron Johnston got ready to punt on what appeared to be a third consecutive drive ending in a punt for the Buffalo offense, but he was hit as he completed the kick by the Dolphins’ Zach Sieler (it was actually a good punt that landed at the Miami 2-yard line).

A penalty was called that extended the Bills’ possession, and they took the opportunity to put together a drive and retake the lead on 15-yard touchdown pass from Allen to wide receiver Khalil Shakir.

Next game: vs. New Orleans Saints (1 p.m. ET, CBS)

    Miami Dolphins (0-3)

This was not a team that has quit on its coach, or its season.

The Miami Dolphins entered Thursday night’s game against the Buffalo Bills on a three-game losing streak dating back to last season, and coach Mike McDaniel faced intense scrutiny and speculation about his job security throughout the week. Fans won’t be any happier after yet another loss to the Bills, but it was a gutsy performance for a Dolphins team that entered the game as a 12.5-point underdog.

There are no moral victories in the NFL, especially not when you’re 0-3 with two losses to division opponents. But McDaniel’s job is safe for another week — and it’s a big one. A loss to the New York Jets on “Monday Night Football” could be too much for the Dolphins to overcome in what should be a tight AFC wild-card race; it could also mark the end of team owner Stephen Ross’ patience with the current regime.

What to make of the QB performance: Tagovailoa played risk-averse football for the most part, but he had his shining moments. He led a 16-play drive to tie the game just before halftime, converting three third downs in the process.

His second touchdown pass was anticipation at its finest, as Tyreek Hill hadn’t even broken free before Tagovailoa floated the ball to a spot in the end zone. It wasn’t generally the most aesthetically pleasing football from a $51 million quarterback, but he took care of the ball and didn’t give away possessions to a Bills team that made Miami pay for turnovers last season.

Trend to watch: Rookie running back Ollie Gordon II was a training camp darling and the team’s clear leading rusher this preseason — but he logged only three carries in Miami’s first two games.

Gordon surpassed that with four carries on the opening drive Thursday and finished with a comparable workload to starter De’Von Achane. With their newfound thunder to Achane’s lightning, the Dolphins rushed for a season-high 116 yards.

Gordon’s usage has to become a recurring theme for a Dolphins offense that struggled mightily to run the ball in Weeks 1 and 2.

Most surprising performance: The Dolphins’ defense actually got some stops! It entered Thursday’s game having allowed points on 13 of 15 possessions to start the season. Miami nearly surpassed that in the second half alone.

The Dolphins appeared to record stops on three straight possessions in the third and fourth quarters but gave the ball right back to Buffalo after a roughing penalty on the ensuing punt. Bradley Chubb is quietly off to a strong start this season after missing all of 2024 — he has recorded sacks in three consecutive games.

Next game: vs. New York Jets (Monday, 7:15 p.m. ET, ESPN)

  • Try Guys star’s estranged wife Ariel helps launch his new Rock Bottom podcast

Try Guys star’s estranged wife Ariel helps launch his new Rock Bottom podcast

Ned’s personal brand and relationship with his fans was forged, for almost a decade, off the back of his adoration for Ariel, so it was relatively unsurprising his comeback featured his estranged wife as his first guest. But the fact Ariel, who had never spoken publicly about the scandal, was willing to offer up her humiliation for the benefit of Ned – and his bank account – has divided the former couple’s fans.

“Ariel should have done this interview on like Call Her Daddy or The Try Wives or something… Ned being there while she’s being so vulnerable and speaking so candidly is INFURIATING me,” wrote one viewer, who had watched the hour-long conversation on the podcast’s official YouTube account, which had formerly belonged to Baby Stepsthe parenting podcast with a sizeable following hosted by Ned and Ariel in 2020.

“Proof that his wife was and still is the most interesting about him. Ariel was so lovely to listen to in this episode,” another viewer wrote, a sentiment echoed in another comment that said, “Do not mistake the views from this video as a welcome back. My best to Ariel in the future.”

“It’s pretty well known that I was presenting myself as a wife guy who talked about his adorable relationship,” Ned admitted to People ahead of the episode’s premiere, saying the reality of his relationship with Ariel was different to the character he was playing for content, and he understands why his infidelity was an ironic, painful and devastating “rug pull” for fans.

    Loading

“It was something fans seemed to resonate with and I leaned into consciously,” Ned continued. “It certainly was a part of my life.”

Ariel said she has not forgiven Ned for lying to her and cheating on her. She also spoke about the guilt and shame she felt when Ned’s affair was exposed, and the current status of their relationship.

“We’ve been together for a long time, and you are the father of my two beautiful children, and we know each other really well,” she said in the episode.

“We’ve worked through a lot of stuff, and the fact that I can be around you and still have a good time and enjoy spending time with you and enjoy spending time with my kids – I think that’s a win.”

Although it was, at times, painfully awkward (“Some days I hate your guts. Some days I enjoy your company more than not,” Ariel told Ned), Ariel’s appearance on the podcast episode is a departure from the well-worn playbook of the woman scorned. Unless you’re Will Smith.

But the strategy of falling and failing and then talking (with a side of earnings for that talking) about your fall and failure is a favourite among high-profilers.
